FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The top priority for Wednesday is an orange Air Pollution Watch ? the first one of the season. This kind of a watch is issued when intense heat combines with light winds, creating atmospheric conditions in which high levels of ozone pollution are possible. So, even though most people would label it a beautiful day, lights winds combined with pretty warm conditions create a not-so-nice Wednesday for North Texas, due to the poor air quality. High levels of surface ozone pollution are possible in the main Metro area and peripheral counties.
Winds may still be light enough on Thursday to warrant another orange day, but they should increase by Friday and into the weekend, when gusts could hit 30 mph.
Otherwise, look for Wednesday to be sunny and very warm, with high temperatures reaching into the mid-to-upper 80s. The overall pattern stays breezy-to-windy with the hot conditions ? close to 90 degrees. That should last through the weekend. Temperatures really start pushing closer to the 90 degree mark starting on Thursday.
A cold front approaches the DFW area late Sunday night.
Even though North Texas is ahead with yearly and spring rainfall amounts, we are running -1.61 inches behind for the month of May. So, we could use some rain in the forecast. Storms will be off to our northwest on Sunday evening and lasting into Monday morning, about a 20 percent chance. It will decrease to about 10 percent on Tuesday. Some of the storms could creep into the western areas.
While those rain chances are not impressive, it is something to look at next week.
