Apple Now Has More Cash Than The US Government | Morrison World News

Maybe the cash-strapped U.S. government should start selling iPads.

According to the latest statement from the U.S. Treasury, the government had an operating cash balance Wednesday of $73.8 billion. That?s still a lot of money, but it?s less than what Steve Jobs has lying around.

Tech juggernaut Apple had a whopping $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June, according to its last earnings report. Unlike the U.S. government, which is scrambling to avoid defaulting on its debt, Apple takes in more money than it spends.

This symbolic feat ? the world?s most highly valued tech company surpassing the fiscal strength of the world?s most powerful nation ? is just the latest pinnacle for Apple, which has been on an unprecedented roll.

Its Macs, iPhones and iPads remain hot sellers, its stock has surged past $400 a share and?Apple just became the world?s largest smartphone vendor?by volume.

There?s been a lot of speculation about what Apple might buy with its piles of cash ? Facebook and Sony being two of the more high-profile examples ? but the company doesn?t seem to be in any hurry to make a move.

?We don?t let the cash burn a hole in the pocket or make stupid acquisitions,? CEO Jobs said last fall. ?We?d like to continue to keep our powder dry because we think there are one or more strategic opportunities in the future.?

Offering Uncle Sam a short-term loan is probably not one of them.

A Still and Quiet Soul Book Review | Womens Bible Cafe

In the book A Still and Quiet Soul- Embracing Contentment by Cathy Messecar you?ll find a planned method for embracing contentment in your life. The author invites us to journey back into a childlike faith and to trust God?s plans rather than our own. She reminds us to stand on solid ground with God as our foundation and encourages us to pour out our complaints to the Father who listens.

On the path to to contentment, Messecar suggests having a ?complaining fast? where you go one hour without complaining. The next day you add another hour, and you build yourself up to contentment. She also encourages wiping out worry, living a balanced life and finding freedom from overachieving.? In the book she supports her ideas with scripture references.

Each of the twelve chapters in the book begins with a scripture reference and ends with prayers to quiet your soul. At the end of the chapters you?ll find a personal story of contentment and review questions for consideration.

While I appreciate the offer to read and review this book, I was unable to make an emotional connection with it. I found I needed to read and reread a paragraph in order to understand it.? I have no complaints with the book or author, it simply was not connecting with me. Maybe I already have a quiet soul and for me personally the book was not connecting. Give it a read and see if you have a different response, or read the other Amazon reviews to get a better feel for this book.

Idaho plans for extensive wolf hunts, trapping (Reuters)

SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) ? Idaho will open its wolf population, now estimated at about 1,000 animals, to extensive hunting and trapping to reduce their numbers to no fewer than 150 under a plan approved on Thursday by the state Fish and Game Commission.

The move came after a heated public hearing Wednesday night in Salmon, where wolf foes declared war on the iconic predators with rhetoric describing Idaho as locked in a "wolf crisis" and as one of three "wolf-occupied states" in the Northern Rockies, along with Montana and Wyoming.

Wolves have been at the center of a bitter debate since they were reintroduced to the region in the mid-1990s over the objections of ranchers and commercial outfitters who said wolves would prey on cattle and compete with hunters for elk.

The plan to cut the wolf population in Idaho comes just three months after wolves in Idaho and Montana were stripped of federal protections under the Endangered Species Act through an unprecedented act of Congress.

Removal from the U.S. endangered species list turned control of those wolves over to state wildlife agencies, now free to set hunting seasons as a way of reducing wolf numbers to levels they see as better balanced with human interests.

In Montana, wildlife managers earlier this month set a statewide quota of 220 wolves -- out of an estimated population of 566 -- for its wolf hunts, which will generally run from September to November.

Idaho's commissioners, by comparison, approved a plan that sets no quota for a combination of hunting and trapping that will be allowed for most of the year in most of the state, beginning next month.

However, Idaho would bar wolf numbers statewide from falling in any given year below the 150 minimum necessary to prevent federal re-listing of them.

The action in Idaho comes as a federal judge in Montana is poised to rule on a lawsuit by environmental groups challenging the de-listing of wolves in both states earlier this year.

DUELING NUMBERS

The commissioners said their aim is to lower the number of conflicts between wolves and livestock in the state and to end wolf-caused declines of elk in some parts of Idaho where outfitters have complained they are losing clients because of unsuccessful hunts for elk and other big game.

Still, a recent survey by state wildlife managers shows elk populations exceed or meet biologists' objectives in the vast majority of Idaho's hunting areas. Another study by wildlife managers shows Idaho wolves killed 148 cows in 2010, out of a total 2.2 million head of cattle in the state.

Idaho game commissioners characterized their plan as a good starting point, with future plans to include wolf trapping and killing by designated state agents and by landowners.

"We will increase the tools in the toolbox and use all legal mechanisms to solve the problem," commission chairman Tony McDermott told wolf opponents on Wednesday night. "We're on the same page and we'll get it done."

At the meeting Thursday in Salmon, commissioners also cut the price of non-resident wolf hunting tags statewide from about $186 to $31.75 as an incentive to out-of-state hunters.

Wildlife advocates on Thursday vowed to launch a boycott of Idaho, its potatoes and its outfitters.

"The word is getting out that this is basically a wolf-hate state," Idaho wolf activist Lynne Stone said. "I think this is going to be a big hit to the image of Idaho and further hurt our economy."

Understanding and Managing Alopecia | Articles Manifesto

Hair loss problems are not at all uncommon as people age and grow older. Alopecia Areata is the common medical phrase for this particular problem. With this condition people often face massive hair loss at a very rapid rate over a defined area of the scalp. For many people their hair is their defining feature and when it is gone they suffer both physically and emotionally.

Potential Causes of Alopecia

Alopecia can affect hair on other areas of the body, but generally speaking, the scalp is the main target. In the early stages, there are often bald spots, giving the condition its unofficial designation of ?spot baldness?. The specifics behind the development of alopecia are not yet known, however most agree that one of these underlying conditions are at play

- Heredity

- Autoimmune Disorder

- Menopause

- Illness

- Particular Hormonal Disorders

- Emotional stress (physical stress as well)

Research can also produce a long list of various diseases, the symptoms of which can be related to hair loss and alopecia.

Treatments for Areata

Alopecia Areata treatments are varied. Some will result in a complete cessation of hair loss while others may have no effect at all. Generally, if the affected area is small, simple monitoring of the condition is all that is recommended. Regrowth will likely occur all on its own.

Furthermore, one of the main reasons behind this condition is considered to be autoimmune disease. Therefore, one of the medications for it acts as a suppressant to the immune system.

Topical treatments are also quite popular with a variety of patients. Usually a minoxidil 5% ointment is applied to the affected area. Both children and adults have reported improvement with this type of alopecia treatment. Hair re-growth can be expected within 12 weeks after starting treatment. The main problem with this treatment is that it does not cure the problem, and should you stop using it hair loss will begin again.

Natural Alternatives for Areata

Traditional remedies have existed for hundreds if not thousands of years and can be used to address many common ailments, including alopecia areata. Along those lines are your essential oils, rosemary, lavender and thyme is a common mixture for hair loss, not only do they stimulate growth, they smell good too! If you want something a bit stronger, you might consider a Chinese herb known as He Shou Wu or onion juice as a topical application. These remedies have been in use for years by countrymen. Of course, home remedies are not always 100% effective, but they are definitely worth a try. Especially when you consider how harsh typical clinical medications such as corticosteroids can be when use over a long period.

Emotional Trauma Associated with Areata

When you compare physical discomfort to the emotional stress associated with hair loss, it is clear which is harder to handle. Women in particular find the idea of going bald very disheartening, since there is not a reliable cure for alopecia. Hair for women is considered a main beauty asset and the thought of losing it can be devastating. Despite the numerous potential treatments listed above there really is no guarantee of success. If the condition becomes wide spread many women will use wigs, scarves, caps and other head coverings. For men it is generally a different story, they will often simply shave what hair they do have off, going bald on purpose. This is much easier than dealing with head coverings and a multitude of treatment options, hey bald can be beautiful!

Choose an Irrelevant Skill When Asked "What Are Your Weaknesses?" in a Job Interview [Job Interview]

Choose an Irrelevant Skill When Asked "What Are Your Weaknesses?" in a Job InterviewIf you've been in a job interview before, you've likely been asked about your weaknesses. The common advice is to pick a weakness that really isn't one at all, but that doesn't necessarily come across as genuine. It can even make you look a little full of yourself. The folks over at Stepcase Lifehack have a better alternative. They suggest picking a weakness that really isn't all that relevant to the job. Here's their example:

For example, "Well, accounting really isn't my thing. I understand the basic idea behind book keeping, but I don't really get the nitty-gritty details. Of course, that's also why I'm applying for this job in human resources. I think it leverages my strengths and steers clear of the technical skills that I haven't learned yet?like accounting."

Using this method you get to be completely honest without really hurting your chances of getting the job. Nobody expects you to be perfect, especially with skills that you don't need to do the job, and honesty can be really refreshing.

How to choose the right home-based business | Working From Home Ideas

Choosing the right home-based business for your personal situation can be a bit of a challenge. The fact of the matter is that there are a great number of home-based business opportunities available. It is also true that many of these home-based businesses really aren?t the best choice for many people. Here are some steps you can go through in order to choose the right home-based business:

1. Identify your skills and desires. Are you great at making crafts? Consider a home-based crafting business. Do all of your friends rave about your holiday parties? Consider a party-planning business. Do you love to cook? Think about starting a home-based catering business. Your home-based business needs to be something you are skilled in as well as something about which you are passionate.

2. Examine the market. If you live in a town with 400 people and there are already 2 professional wedding photographers, the market is probably saturated. There probably isn?t room for a third wedding photographer. Knowing the market will help keep you from choosing a home-based business that is doomed to failure.

3. Identify the costs. Some home-based businesses might have a fairly low startup cost. For example, if you want to start a home-based tutoring business, your only initial expenses are going to be advertising. On the other hand, if you want to start a home-based pottery business, you are going to need certain equipment and materials in order to get started. Identifying startup costs can tell you whether or not you can afford to open a certain type of home-based business.

4. Check for legitimacy. In some cases, you may come across a home-based business opportunity that just sounds too good to be true. The fact of the matter is that, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn?t true. Make sure to check with a variety of sources as to the legitimacy of a home-based business opportunity.

Following these steps won?t guarantee you success in your home-based business. You?ve got to have a certain degree of business sense as well as a large amount of dedication in order to succeed. However, following these steps can help keep your home-based business from failing before it starts.

Japan World Cup glory 'dream come true' (AFP)

TOKYO (AFP) ? Japanese erupted in joy Monday after their team won the women's World Cup, hailing "a dream come true" and "a miracle" for the country as it battles to recover from March's huge earthquake and tsunami.

Local media reported extensively on the reactions of people living in shelters after the March 11 disaster in the northeast destroyed homes, left 21,000 people dead or missing and sparked a nuclear crisis.

Katsuo Mori, a 74-year-old man whose home was washed away by the towering tsunami, told Jiji Press news agency: "This will help brighten the atmosphere at the temporary housing complex. It will boost our efforts to hang on."

In the same temporary unit in the city of Natori, 50-year-old female part-time worker Yoshiko Saito told Jiji: "Women are strong. I believe women will emerge stronger in the future."

In the shelters, and in bars, public places and in millions of homes, football-mad Japanese watched glued to the action live from Germany as their women emerged 3-1 on penalties over twice champions the United States.

Japan become the first team from Asia to win the women's World Cup.

Hundreds of fans, many of them clad in blue Japan jerseys, bundled out onto the streets of fashionable Shibuya, a hub of Tokyo's nightlife, chanting "Nippon! Nippon!" after the match finally ended at around 6:20 am Japan time.

"It was a great victory which gives impetus to our reconstruction," said Yukihito Abe, the head of the football association in the tsunami-ravaged town of Minami-sanriku.

"I really want to say 'Thank you'," he told public broadcaster NHK at one temporary housing unit.

"Nadeshiko, the world number ones!" screamed identical banner headlines in extra editions of the major daily newspapers Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun that were handed out in Tokyo and other major cities.

Nadeshiko is a pink flower cherished in male-dominated Japan as a symbol of feminine beauty and grace, belying the squad's tough giant-killing run to lift the trophy after twice coming from behind to take the final into extra-time.

Defender Saki Kumagai, who smashed the ball past US goalkeeper Hope Solo for the winning penalty, had visited Minami-sanriku to see the widespread destruction for herself.

A jubilant Japan Football Association honorary president Saburo Kawabuchi declared: "Now I know miracles can happen. The goddess of victory smiled on us as we have worked hard with a big dream and the spirit of fair play."

Even television sports anchors struggled to keep their emotions in check.

"It's a dream come true for Nadeshiko Japan. They beat the United States for the first time," gushed an announcer on the Fuji TV network. "They played patiently... to bathe themselves in glory."

So what is reciprocal linking? Also known as link exchanges, reciprocal links is the process in which 2 webmasters are in agreement that they will show one another?s link on their own respective website. The amount of sites that connect to a specific website is referred to as link development popularity. It will help boost the ranking of a website in the search engines.

Today, backlink building is among the most important aspect of marketing of any website, regardless if new or old, and they are really worth the money spent on them. This is again, as mentioned above, is because of the point that higher number of traffic will mean great sales.

While there are lots of other good link building service techniques and it is beneficial to use a bit of them, I am going to leave it at that ? Forklift Training - Free Articles Directory - ProArticlesDaily.com

Operating a forklift can potentially be a very profitable job getting up to A$30 per hour operating in many businesses such as warehouses, utilities and agriculture. It is also known to be a high-risk occupation which usually demands necessary forklift training courses as well as a certificate just before one may possibly be hired to be a forklift worker. Anyone who is no less than eighteen years of age also who passes the forklift assessment analysis could be a forklift handler. A forklift training provider may offer solutions in acquiring a license to operate a forklift vehicle (TLILIC108A) after undergoing the whole training course which features two segments: concept and practical training. Principle and functional factors Forklift preparation principle is usually taught through a study book given out on the beginning of teaching. This will instruct: forklift mechanic safety
necessary pre check ups just before operating a forklift
work safety check ups and
post check ups
Each student is expected to study this guide automatically after signing up for the training course which can last about two days depending on the individual's current expertise level. Functional teaching requires a person behind the wheel of a forklift in which he will experience proper forklift operation, usage as well as forklift safety and security methods for example pre-operational checks, operational check ups, load shifting and also power down procedures. The forklift program ends in a hands-on test carried out by the qualified forklift inspector. An individual who passes the practical test is released a Notice of Assessment which will function as a short term licence while the student applies for the forklift licence. Period of learning The training program normally takes 2 days and may even be completed in a single week end or in some weekends to accommodate the employed daily schedule of the individual. A student???s existing skill level can reduce the working out time needed in case he can demonstrate good experience or capabilities. Forklift mechanic with more working experience will usually complete their particular training and acquire a license to operate a forklift truck in 2 days. Training packages may be modified in accordance with the capabilities of the person. Less skilled forklift mechanics, anyone who has never ever driven a car or have no past course study usually takes some other courses to enhance their experience. Forklift training is very important since it will teach individuals the right way to run a forklift correctly as well as effectively. Training programs aren't only for starters but they are likewise ideal for experienced operators who need more advanced training which they could add to their resumes. It's also for authorized operators who are recommended to have a refresher training course as the requirement for continued job as well as renewal of licence.

Obama says 80 percent of public backs his debt ceiling option. Really?

Obama said Friday that 80 percent of Americans back a combination of spending cuts and new tax revenue to whittle the US deficit and end the debt ceiling crisis. Not according to polls.

President Obama made an arresting statement Friday, in an effort to nudge Republicans to reconsider their opposition to tax increases.

"You have 80 percent of the American people who support a balanced approach," to reduce federal deficits with new tax revenue as well as spending cuts, Mr. Obama said in a press conference. "That?s not just Democrats," he emphasized. "That?s [also] the majority of Republicans."

Is he right?

Technically, no, according to recent polls tracked by the Polling Report website.

The president is correct that most Americans, when asked how to solve America's budget problems, opt for a mixed approach rather than all spending cuts or all tax hikes.

But it's hard to find a poll where the tally in favor of a blended approach reaches 80 percent ? and it's possible that the share of Republicans who lean that way is lower than 50 percent.

So Obama can point to public opinion as a kind of arrow in his quiver, but Americans aren't embracing his views by an 80-to-20 margin over Republicans.

Here's what the polls say.

The survey Obama appeared to be referencing in his comment was by Gallup, released Wednesday. US adults were asked how they'd like to see Congress tackle federal deficits.

At one end of the spectrum, 20 percent opted for "only with spending cuts." At the other end, 4 percent said "only with tax hikes." And 69 percent voiced support for something in between ? mostly for either an equal mix of tax hikes and spending cuts (32 percent) or a blend emphasizing "mostly spending cuts" (30 percent).

Take note, Mr. President, that was 69 percent, not 80 percent. And it's not clear that 69 percent would rally around any specific deficit-reduction plan.

But the poll may also ring an alarm for Republican lawmakers.

Among adults who identified themselves as Republicans, just 26 percent called for addressing deficits "only with spending cuts."

That's a big contrast with Republicans elected to the US House of Representatives, who stand almost uniformly against boosting tax revenue as part of the solution.

Some 24 percent of Republicans in the poll called for an equal mix of tax hikes and spending cuts, while 41 percent opted to do the job "mostly with spending cuts."

At the very least, Republican voters aren't as rigidly aligned on the tax issue as the politicians of their party are.

Still, polls don't suggest Republicans line up squarely behind Obama on the debt ceiling and taxes.

Another new nationwide poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University, asked the question this way: "Do you think any agreement to raise the national debt ceiling should include only spending cuts, or should it also include an increase in taxes for the wealthy and corporations?"

Some 48 percent of Republicans said spending cuts only, while 43 percent said also a tax increase. (Among all Americans, 67 percent favored the tax increase as well as spending cuts.)

In May, a Reuters/Ipsos poll also found more Republicans for a spending-cuts-only approach than for alternatives.

Given the rift between the parties, discussions on how to raise the national debt limit while also curbing future deficits have focused mostly on spending cuts. Democrats want to see some increases in tax revenue as well.

That need not involve a boost in tax rates for most Americans. One approach would be to restore Clinton-era tax rates on high-earning Americans, and to scale back the generosity of tax deductions.

In two recent polls, a majority of Americans urged politicians to "compromise" rather than oppose a deal based on political principles.

Outside budget experts say a compromise plan could go a long way toward restoring the nation's fiscal health. In his press conference, Obama also said, "We don?t have to do anything radical to solve this [deficit] problem."

That may depend on the definition of "radical," however.

Polls show Americans are reluctant to see cuts in entitlement benefits within Social Security and Medicare. The idea of reducing the national debt by making small cuts in those programs, coupled with a small tax hike, drew the support of 45 percent of Americans in an April poll by ABC News/Washington Post. But 53 percent opposed that idea.

Acute Stroke - Managing Acute Stroke

Current Therapy Acute Stroke

Once a firm diagnosis is made, specific therapy and care begin. Some traditional treatments are known to have uncertain foundation. Active research is being directed to the causes of neuronal damage, the progression of acute stroke and alleviation of the insult.

Stroke may be categorized as either ischaemic or haemorrhagic in nature. While ischaemic cerebrovascular disease predominates throughout the world, cerebral haemorrhage may account for 30 to 40% of stroke among Chinese and Japanese. As cerebral haemorrhage patients may be fully alert and clinically resemble those suffering from ischaemic vascular disease, treatment of stroke must be based on firm radiological identification of the underlying pathology. The cause of stroke has to be clearly identified so that specific risk factors are controlled, and treatment is tailored to individual requirements.

General Management of Acute Stroke

Good management of stroke patient should begin with sound basic diagnosis, investigation and nursing care. Dedicated strict medical and nursing care in acute stroke units has been shown to reduce functional disabilities and the need to long-term hospitalization, even when drug therapy is identical to that given in general medical units. The difference in outcome seems attributable simply to greater care in diagnosis, therapy, and overall management of preventable complications. Adequate nutrition, fluid and electrolyte balance should ensured; nasogastric feeding may be necessary in those who cannot be fed.

Stuperouos or comatose patients may need airway protection to prevent aspiration, frequent suction as well as semi-Fowler positioning. The Tredelenberg position is indicated in the case of proporsional cerebral ischaemia. Prolonged bed confinement leads to complications such as infection, thrombophlebitis, pulmonary embolism and decubitus ulcers. The immobilized patient should be turned at least 2-hourly to prevent ischaemic necrosis of skin and development of bed sores, as well as infection. More frequent positional changes are likely to be beneficial since kinetic therapy using a rotating bed which turns patients 8 rotations/hour has been reported to reduce even further the frequency of infection. Joint contractures can be prevented by physical therapy, while anterior dislocation of the humeral head can be prevented with good positioning and the use of slings. Rehabilitation should start as early as possible.

Fever

Fever in a patient with ischaemic stroke is usually secondary in infection, most commonly aspiration or infectious pneumonia. Pulmonary atelectasis may be prevented by periodic hyperventilation and forceful coughing. Chest movement on hemiplegic side tends to be decreased so attention should be paid to that side. Pneumonia is a major cause of death in stroke patients, and raised respiratory rate and development of fever can aid early recognition of this complication. Urinary tract infection is also common because of the frequent use of indwelling catheters, as well as inability to empty the bladder fully with resultant urine statis in those without catheter. Venous thrombosis in the paralysed leg maybe prevented by the use of the leg wrappings, passive leg movements, adequate hydration and the use of low dose subcutaneous heparin. This complication, however, is uncommon among Chinese so that only selective use of anticoagulation is necessary in this population. Particular care should be taken in brainstem stroke as aspiration and cardio-respiratory complications including sleep apnoea are common.

Hypertension

Hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke, and is therefore frequently found on admission. However, many patients will have spontaneous reduction of the hypertension in a few days. In deciding how soon a raised blood pressure should be brought down to normal levels after a stroke, it is worth considering that when autoregulation is impaired during acute ischaemic stroke and the cerebral blood flow becomes passively dependent on arterial pressure, the marginal ischaemic penumbra may suffer reduction in blood flow with reduction of the blood pressure. Furthermore, decrease in blood pressure may reduce flow and therefore enhance thrombus formation.

In case of cerebral haemorrhage, however, a higher blood pressure may be necessary to provide adequate cerebral perfusion pressure in the presence of a raised intracranial pressure. For the above reasons, aggressive treatment of hypertension in the acute phase may be both unnecessary and dangerous. It is prudent to aim for stabilization at a lower level rather than a normal level, and reduce blood pressure gradually unless there is extreme hypertension, hypertensive encephalopathy, myocardia ischaemia aggravated by the hypertension, or aortic dissection. Furthermore, drugs such as nitroprusside, hydralazine, clonidine, diazoxide which reduce cerebral perfusion, should be either avoided or used with great caution.

Experimental studies have shown that hyperglycaemia intensifies ischaemic cerebral injury. There is also evidence that stroke patients with higher glucose levels do less well. While controversy exists as to whether this represents a deleterious effect of hyperglycaemia or inversely the stress effect of a large infarct on glucose homeostatis, the observation does point to the necessity of monitoring glucose levels in patients with stroke and a more judicious use of glucose infusions.

Steroids

Steroids are frequently prescribed for cerebral oedema in stroke. However, unlike the extracellular vasogenic oedema that follows ischaemia does not respond to steroid therapy. A controlled study failed to show that high dose steroids given to patients with cerebral infarction have any beneficial effect. In addition, complications of infections were more common with steroids. Mannitol and other dehydrating agents, although having fewer side effects, have been equally ineffective. surgery, however, may be useful in cases of severe ischaemic cerebellar swelling causing brainstem compression.

Goal Setting and Personal Development | Self Improvement Articles ...

Definite goals assist one important purpose. They keep you proactive. With no goals, you respond to conditions and events. Outside things control you. With goals, you produce your own conditions and events. Therefore you get to be a master of your destiny.

By adjusting goals you keep advancing and bettering your life. You are able to only reach destination if you specify it. Setting goals is the procedure to do that. You will not stagnate if you keep working with this personal development notion.

Arranging goals lets you accomplish more comfort in life. The chief error individuals make is that they set goals to accomplish happiness. Happiness can?t be the object of your goal. Happiness is something you have within you all the time. Perhaps you have not attained it yet, but it?s there.

These general hints are organized in a sequence that will support you from considering your goals to really accomplishing them. Don?t forget, these are only hints, take what you like and try it out for a while to see what works better for you. Don?t make your goals ?oughts? but ?wants?.

Utilize a journal to track your goals journey where you might keep daily or weekly records of your progress including affirmations, winners, appreciations for your hard work, honors, resistances, obstacles, and so forth. Utilize your goals journal to write goals first and to rewrite them over time. Utilize it to break your goals into steps. Critique your progress on a regular basis and jot some notes.

It?s very crucial to get yourself into an inspired, positive and relaxed state prior to writing goals. A few ideas for getting yourself into a positive state include: Meditation, hearing inspiring music, reading something fun or funny, watching an amusing movie, taking a walk in a beautiful place, exercise, or prayer.

After getting into a great mental and emotional state, begin your brainstorming. Write all likely goals quickly with no editing or criticism. You may review and prioritize later; right now you lack to be as originative as you can be.

Here are a number of likely areas of your life to consider when you?re developing your goals list: job, financial, relationship, loved ones, home, friends, personal development, wellness, appearance, possessions, fun and recreation, travel, spiritual, self-respect and service/community.

Goals fall under variable periods of time like: Immediate goals, 30 day goals, 6 month goals, 1 year goals, 5 years, 10 years or more farsighted. Make certain you may achieve what you want in the time frame you arranged.

When authoring your goal, state it like it has already occurred. Put your goals in words that presume that you already have accomplished them. For instance, ?I now have a new car.?

To get you passionate, invested and motivated, add emotional language to your composed goals. Here?s an illustration ?I absolutely adore and am energized about my beautiful new house in the hills? which is much more passionate than ?I like my new house?.

As your subconscious manifests things literally, you need to compose specific detailed goals. Utilize language that?s clear in describing exactly what it is you wishCompose in favorable terms rather than negative ones.

Check in with yourself to make certain that you?re considering what you truly want. Frequently we try to please other people at our own expense. You won?t be successful attempting to reach the goals your parents, spouse or other acquaintances or relatives wish for you. Think about your most crucial values and beliefs when developing your goals. For example if you value freedom, your goal might be to be self-employed. If security is what you value, you might want to work for the government where layoffs rarely occur.

Pick goals that you may really reach in a fair amount of time. After you?ve brainstormed, one way to prioritize is to put the peak priority goals at ten out of a possible ten points and the least crucial at one out of ten.

Break every goal down into manageable blocks producing a step-bystep plan to accomplish it. For instance, if you require a new automobile, first decide precisely what color, model, year, and brand you need. Write this down in your goals journal. Then write the particular steps you need to get to your goal like.

Life sentences given in Argentine torture trial (AP)

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina ? Two former military officers were convicted Thursday of murder, kidnapping and torture at one of the most notorious prisons run by Argentina's former dictatorship. Both got life sentences for crimes against humanity.

There were very few survivors among the 2,500 political prisoners who passed through "El Vesubio" prison during the 1976-83 military junta's dirty war on dissidents, which officially claimed 13,000 lives in all.

"El Vesubio" was run by the army in La Matanza, a working-class suburb of the capital, said Rodrigo Borda, a lawyer for the Center for Social and Legal Studies, which has kept close track of Argentina's progress in prosecuting crimes comitted by the junta.

"The detainees were hooded and chained together, and the guards gave them almost nothing to eat," Borda said in an interview.

Witnesses testified that the prison's boss, Col. Pedro Alberto Duran, regularly raped female prisoners and forced them to live with him in rooms in the compound.

Duran was charged, but died in June during the trial. Seven others went on trial with him last February, charged with 156 crimes against humanity.

Of these, former Gen. Hector Gamen and Col. Hugo Pascarelli were given life sentences Thursday. Five others ? former prison guards Ramon Erlan, Jose Maidana, Roberto Zeolitti, Diego Chemes and Ricardo Martinez ? were convicted of torturing political prisoners and received sentences of 18-22 years.

Dozens of new investigations into the crimes of the dictatorship were launched after Argentina's Supreme Court ruled in 2005 against amnesties that had protected military figures from prosecution. Many of these cases are finally coming to trial.

In all, 807 people are being prosecuted for crimes against humanity, the government said in May. But only 212 people had been sentenced at that point, and only 40 were in prison after exhausting all their appeals ? a pace that has frustrated human rights advocates and government officials.

Tumtum & Nutmeg: The Rose Cottage Tales : Sacramento Book Review

Filed in Children's on July 15, 2011 with no comments

By Emily Bearn
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, $16.99, 406 pages

My boys really enjoy listening to a good story. So, when I saw the opportunity to review?Tumtum & Nutmeg: The Rose Cottage Adventures, I jumped at the chance. We were not disappointed.

Reminiscent of Wind in the Willows and The Borrowers, author Emily Bearn has written three delightful tales detailing the adventures of two mice, Tumtum and Nutmeg. These two darling mice and their various companions save Christmas for two children, help retrieve stolen treasure at the beach, and deal with nasty circus mice.

The chapters are designed to keep the listeners on the edge of their seats. Indeed, on more than one occasion, I genuinely enjoyed reaching a particularly good cliffhanger, closing the book, and suggesting it was time of bed, just to hear my sons clamor for one more chapter. Illustrator Nick Price?s charming pen-and-ink drawings are the perfect complement to these lovely tales.

On finishing?Rose Cottage and discovering that Bearn had written more books about these two mice, my nine-year-old son immediately requested we get all of her books. I doubt a children?s book could receive a stronger recommendation.

Man who said he planned to kill Obama held over murder (Reuters)

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) ? A 41-year-old man who told investigators he planned to eventually assassinate President Barack Obama awaited possible extradition to South Dakota on Wednesday on charges including murder linked to the plot, prosecutors said.

James Vernon McVay told authorities after he was arrested near Madison that the killing of a 75-year-old woman was the first of several he intended to commit as he traveled to Washington, D.C., where he planned to use a rifle to kill Obama, according to a South Dakota criminal complaint.

"I'm going to kill and kill until I get him," McVay told investigators, referring to the president.

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said that in 2009, while in jail in Nebraska, McVay had also made threatening statements toward protectees of the Secret Service.

"During interviews with him, he later recanted the statements that were brought to our attention," Donovan said. "Our Madison office is currently conferring with the U.S. Attorney's office in Wisconsin on the direction of the case."

After slashing the throat of Maybelle Schein with a camping knife as she slept in her home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, McVay drove her white Buick to Madison, where he planned to "ambush and kill a police officer and take their guns," the criminal complaint said.

McVay told authorities he intended to travel on to Chicago or Indianapolis where he would kill again and steal another vehicle to drive to Washington.

South Dakota U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson said on Wednesday he was aware of the case but could not discuss the investigation or confirm whether federal charges were pending.

McVay told authorities he began developing his plan to kill the president two years ago while in a South Dakota prison.

Hours after leaving a community transition program on June 30, McVay walked to a Wal-Mart, where he stole clothing and knives. McVay, who is on parole, told authorities he then slept under a bridge for hours.

McVay later selected Schein's house to break into and commit the crime because he saw a garage door slightly ajar and a vehicle in the garage, the complaint said, adding that he "was going to kill people whenever the opportunity arose".

"He stated that he needed to 'get blood on (his) hands' and to 'get experience' killing people'," it added.

Police tracked the vehicle, and McVay was apprehended on July 2 after a chase and brief standoff, the complaint said.

South Dakota State's Attorney Aaron McGowan said he was working with the Dane County district attorney's office to coordinate transporting McVay back to South Dakota.

"What we do here depends on what (McVay) does there," McGowan said, adding that if he waived extradition he could be back in South Dakota within days.

If McVay refuses, the process could take several weeks, McGowan said.

Blotto, Twinks and the Ex-King's Daughter : San Francisco Book Review

By?Simon Brett
Felony & Mayhem, $14.94,?224 pages

If there was an award for best spoof or parody, this book would take top honors, no question. Master of mystery Simon Brett returns us to those golden days between the wars, and the aristocracy, which generally had more money than brains. Of course, they also had honor and excelled on the cricket field, which was vastly more important!

Multiple laughs on every page will accompany the reader through this delightful misadventure and mysterious tale. Ducal sprogs Devereux (Blotto) and his sister, the super-clever Honoria (Twinks) combine their talents (he?s the brawn, she?s the brains) to bring about a bloodless coup in Mitteleuropia. Ex-King Sigismund has found temporary refuge at Tawcester Towers, ancestral seat of the Dukes of Tawcester, and then (horrors!) his daughter, Ex-Princess Ethelinde, is kidnapped. With handy and loyal chauffeur, Corky Froggett, they set off to rescue the damsel in distress.

The ex-princess fancies herself in love with the empty-headed Blotto, who finally persuades her that only marriage to Transcarpathia?s almost ex-Crown Prince Fritz-Ludwig can fulfill her noble sense of honor ? and destiny. Once home again, the duo capture the perpetrator of the original crime and turn him into the local constabulary, leaving them free to embark on their next misadventure. Gilbert & Sullivan, where are you when we need you? Here?s the perfect plot for your next operetta!

Water; How Much Do You Really Need? : ThyBlackMan.com

(ThyBlackMan.com) Attention dieters, drinking eight glasses of water a day is a myth!

You?ve heard it before: Drink eight glasses of water a day to keep your body trim, healthy, and happy. Though water is vital in a variety of bodily functions and processes, you may not have to drink as much as you think.

Unlike other vital nutrients, water doesn?t have specific daily requirements. ?Just like everyone has different caloric needs, a person?s water intake is affected by age, weight, activity level, and environment. The Food and Nutrition Board at the Institute of Medicine offers a ballpark estimation: Women should drink approximately 2.7 liters (about 11 cups) and?Men approximately 3.7 liters (more than 15 cups) of total water a day.

The key word is total
The key word in this sentence is total. In fact, your morning coffee and that Gala apple you packed for lunch can count toward your total. Liquids can include water, juice, milk, plus all of the juicy fruits and veggies you eat each day. Eighty percent of our water intake comes from beverages, but the other 20% comes from food.

Fruits such as strawberries, cantaloupe, and grapefruit, and vegetables such as broccoli, cucumber, and spinach are more than 90% water. Including a lot of fresh produce in your diet will put you closer to your water goals without causing you to constantly circle the water cooler.

And although water is a cheap and calorie-free option, coffee, tea, and even beer and soda can count toward your total. But keep in mind that while you?re getting water in beer, soda, and Frappachinos, you?re also consuming calories and other not-so-nutritious ingredients like refined sugar.

Water for weight loss
Plenty of diet books will tell you that guzzling water is the secret to fighting the battle of the bulge. While this may be true, the research often conflicts. Two studies (one done in 2003 and the other in 2007) showed that consuming lots of water boosted the number of calories burned in a day, and a popular 2008 study published in Obesity suggested that drinking water may lower energy intake or alter metabolism.

However, a 2006 study cast doubt on this theory by showing that water had no effect on energy expenditure. And it can?t be clear if the reason for weight loss can be attributed to drinking less calorie-laden beverages or the water itself.

It is true that certain individuals need more water?some endurance athletes can lose up to three quarts of sweat per hour! So if you are sick, live in a hot or high-altitude environment, have extended sweat sessions at the gym, or are pregnant or breast-feeding, you may have to adjust your fluid intake accordingly.

The bottom line
Drink plenty of water and other low-calorie, nutritious beverages, eat fresh fruits and veggies, and be sure to rehydrate after trips to the gym or time in the sun. If you do this, chances are you?ll get enough fluids.
