Manali, is a beautiful hill station by the river Beas in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Located at an altitude of 1,950 m at the northern end of the Kullu Valley, this hill station is famous not just as a tourist spot but also as the starting point of many treks and white-water rafting adventures.
This hill station features very prominently in Hindu Mythologies, according to one of which Manali has been named after the Lord Brahma?s lawgiver Manu, who is supposed to have come here to begin the seventh cycle of creation and destruction. Many legends also suggest that Manali is also the abode of the ?Sapta Rishis? or the seven great sages.
Situated about 250 km from the prominent city of Shimla, the hill town of Manali is very popular as the base of various adventure activities like white water rafting, river crossing etc, owing to its location by the banks of the beautiful river Beas.

Rohtang Pass in Manali is a favourite among adventure enthusiasts.
At an altitude of 3979 m, Rohtang Pass is the highest point on the Manali-Keylong road. A small lake called Dassaur Lake and the source of the Beas river called Beas Kund are near by.Manali is also famous for its many ancient and sacred temples like the Hidimba Temple, which is dedicated to Hidimba Devi who married the Pandava, Bhima.? Maa Sharvari Temple is another popular and sacred temple whose deity, Durga is said to be the ?Kul devi? or family goddess of kings in the area. Another popular temple is the Vashishta Hot Water Springs and Temple dedicated to Lord Rama and Sage Vaishisht.
Among other tourist spots, Solang Valley popularly known as Snow Point is very famous for its 300-meter ski lift. There are also some beautiful waterfalls in Manali like Rahala waterfalls and Rozy Falls.The best time to visit Manali is between May and October when the weather is pleasant and not too chilly.
